My FiOS will allow subscribers to access all of their remote control, entertainment, home monitoring, and customer service features from a single app. My FiOS will be made available by the end of this year, but only for Android devices. There will also be a version for the iPhone and iPad, also scheduled for release by the end of this year. The company said that there are dozens of new remote applications that are currently in development for which MyFios has paved the way. The announcement of the new app was made On October 18th at the Emerging Technologies Conference at MIT.

The Verizon Foundation gave a $100,000 grant to the American Red Cross to assist with hurricane relief efforts following Hurricane Irene. The money will assist the Red Cross to provide food, shelter, cleaning supplies and emotional support to those affected by the storm. Along with the donation, the company also introduced a disaster relief incentive program which would match Verizon employee donations dollar for dollar, up to $1000 per employee for Hurricane Irene relief. Verizon customers who wish to help can donate $10 to any one of nine organizations by sending a text message to the organization of their choice. These text messages are no cost, with the entire donation going directly to the organization it is intended for.
