Are Internet Service Providers By City Watching You?

Tuesday, December 18th, 2012

An interesting phenomenon regarding those having rent-to-own computers in their homes is raising questions about the power that internet service providers by city may have. Those who had the not-yet-paid for computers in their homes were horrified to discover that a detective program, surreptitiously installed on computer devices, was recording keystrokes and filming activities occurring in front of the devices.

While the companies involved say the software was a means to maintain the location of their computers and disable them should non-payment occur, those who had the computers say they were violated in the worst possible way. Some of the symptoms of the remote operation of the computers included the illumination of the web cam light even if it wasn’t being used and prompts asking for their names and addresses.
