One such company is Verizon. They offer promotions on a regular basis. But these money-saving discounts are not like the ones you may have seen on TV or elsewhere. In fact, there are many promotions offered by internet companies which may not appear in offline publications at all. In Verizon’s case, their focus remains on the provision of an internet connection that is reliable for customers.

But how much does this reliable connection cost? That depends on a few things, including whether or not you are a new Verizon customer. New customers can take advantage of exclusive online offers which could see them paying less for their internet, phone and television services for as many as 12 months at a time. Verizon Internet Service Continues To Make Progress With Fiber Migration

August 14th, 2013

At least one internet company is promising to exceed its migration estimations for this year. Verizon says that not only will its wireline margins improve, but also that its migrations from copper to fiber will exceed 300,000 in 2013, leaving it on track for the provider`s estimations. The company’s FiOS product is where its customers will be headed after copper connections are closed. In just the second quarter, Verizon managed to convert over eighty thousand customers to its fiber FiOS offering, giving customers access to faster internet speeds as well as expanded TV offerings. In areas where copper infrastructure damage has occurred due to hurricanes, the company has replaced copper infrastructure with fiber.

In other areas, the company offers both fiber and copper services, as they are required to do so by current regulations. However, Verizon internet service is experiencing issues with how to improve the margins of its wireline products, as they remain low. However, there are new products on the horizon which will allow the company to create a new foundation for growth. The news came out of Boston, from Fran Shammo, Verizon CFO and EVP at the 16th Annual Technology, internt and Communciations Conference put on by Oppenheimer.

How To Handle A Software Update Failure

August 7th, 2013

When you receive an update for software that’s installed on your computer, it means that the developers of that software have taken measures to block more sophisticated malware attacks. This is why so many computer experts stress the importance of updating software. But sometimes, these updates can fail, leaving us not knowing what to do next. The reason for the error could either be because the updater software itself has failed, or the fact that the user is not on their computer as an Administrator. The updater software may be able to be repaired by navigating to the Control Panel, and then Programs and Features. Once the updater program has been located, pressing the “Repair” button will begin the process. And then, a restart of the computer is recommended before trying to update software anew.

Windows User Account Control Settings are where the adjustment to Administrator can be accomplished. They can be found by navigating to the Control Panel from the Start Menu, and then choosing “User Accounts”. Folder attributes can also be changed so that all user levels are able to access them, which can also solve software update issues. Users can also type in the error itself into a search engine to see what other solutions may be available.

Clear Wireless Internet, And Your Other Internet Options

July 31st, 2013

There are all kinds of options when looking to get online at home. In addition to traditional types like DSL and cable, there are also newer forms of internet that are beginning to take the world by storm. One of these is the gigabit internet offering being provided by Google, which appears to be rapidly gaining in popularity. Another is fiber to the home, otherwise known as FTTH. With all of these choices, it can be very difficult for any internet user to figure out which kind of connection will work best in their household.

What any choice of ISP will eventually come down to is budget. Even if you use the internet non-stop, the amount of data you will be allowed per month will depend on how much you can afford for a connection. And while you could call each company to get their prices, it’s much easier to compare major companies like Clear Wireless internet by using a resource that offers speeds, prices and data limits for them all at one location. This way, you can see in minutes which companies offer packages you can afford. It’s also a good idea to get a feel for companies by reviewing their customer feedback.

ATT Uverse To Soon Introduce New Speed Tier

July 24th, 2013

Following efforts during last year to upgrade its wireline network to an infrastructure that is all IP, a popular American internet provider has just announced its plans to boost speeds to 45 Mbps. The company is AT&T, and its U-Verse product will offer the faster tier in the next few months. Following the 45 Mbps boost will be a lift to 75 Mbps, with the goal of being able to provide customers with speeds of 100 Mbps. As well, U-verse plans to increase its available areas for U-Verse internet by 1.3 million, which undoubtedly has many would-be customers celebrating.

Telecom operators continue to look on the company favorably. And it’s no wonder, considering that ATT Uverse has been reporting a steady increase in revenues year over year to the tune of 30.1%. As well, the company now can say that more than half of the revenues coming from the wireline consumer business are from its IP service. And the number of U-Verse subscribers continue to rise, with 9.4 million U-Verse customers having been counted for the last quarter. With more customers come more revenues, which are rising at the rate of 2.4 percent more than they were one year ago.

Former Quest Internet Beginning Foray Into 1Gbps FTTP?

May 23rd, 2013

The last mile network that the former Quest Internet is transforming has been coming along conservatively. While CenturyLink has been using a fiber to the node (FTTN) architecture, a new project in Omaha suggests that the company is also interested in providing fiber to the premises (FTTP). However, implementing the latter may be fraught with challenges.

This is because the Omaha FTTP trial will require the company’s existing HFC-based network to be upgraded. And the conversion could mean many customer and technological issues. For customers, it will mean replacing their existing equipment in their homes as well as raising their perceived value of the new equipment. Whether or not the company will upgrade more markets to the new architecture remains to be seen, but the need for fiber-based offerings is both obvious and necessary, say experts

Kaleidescape Viewers Using ATT Uverse Warned About Data Caps

May 3rd, 2013

Those who enjoy viewing movies using the Kaleidescape service will be happy to know that the company’s download store opened earlier this week. The store now offers HD video downloads of Blu-ray quality. However, it’s not all sunshine and roses; while the video quality may be incredible, those with data caps from their ISP, such as ATT Uverse could quickly find themselves over their limits.

This is because a movie in this quality could mean a download size of over 50GB. At Uverse’s data cap of 250GB per month and ten dollars for every 50GB exceeded, not only would customers pay more, but also pay double for the original cost of the movie. How this will play out should companies like Kaleidescape start offering similar downloads remains to be seen, but the trend is traveling in that direction.

Gen4 Satellite Internet Service Has Launched

April 5th, 2013

A nationwide provider of satellite internet service has announced the adoption of Gen4 service via a major satellite provider in the United States. HughesNet will be the company providing the Gen4 service, which offers higher speeds than the company’s last generation – 15 Mbps compared to 10 Mbps. USIRIS LLC, the company which offers HughesNet, along with other satellite providers to customers nationwide, referred to the lack of reliable internet access for customers in rural and sparsely-populated areas as those who will be best served by the upgraded service.

The Gen4 service will be offered starting at $59.99 per month. Depsite the popularity of other forms of internet like fiber optic and cable, the satellite industry continues to thrive, with new satellite launches being planned that will deliver even faster service to customers.

Could We Soon Be Accessing High Speed Internet Providers in My Area With Our Skin?

March 29th, 2013

Earlier this month, a start-up in Massachusetts called MC10 showed off its skin sensing technology, called a ‘bio-stamp’. The completely bendable microchip can be printed directly on the skin, but it’s not capable of getting online with high speed internet providers in my area; instead, it monitors the health of the person who is wearing it.

The chip resembles a temporary tattoo, and was originally designed for sports physicians, detecting things like hydration level and body temperature. This latest design is actually the most current of a range of previous designs. It is far smaller than previous incarnations, and can last through many activities such as showering and swimming. The sensor wears from the skin in two weeks via natural exfoliation.
