Online Gaming Cheating — Game Over?
Thursday, February 4th, 2010According to Internet Society New York, some colleagues from the Department of Computer Science at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, have recently published a paper outlining a new protocol developed for identifying cheating in the online gaming sector. A vast underground exists where cheating occurs through use of non-sanctioned software. This type of cheating undermines the integrity of the entire industry by increasing the cheater’s odds of winning. By putting some power back in the gaming operators’ hands to identify when individuals are utilizing cheating tactics, gaming patrons can be assured that they are enjoying the experience on a level playing field where their efforts are equal to everyone else’s. For the operator, profit margins are protected from these illegal practices.
